History of Stephensville Street Rods

"As far as I can recall, this Club originated about 28 years ago, There was a group of guys that used to hang out at "Utkes" (which is now Diggers), in the late 70's. They were all gear heads. Someone came up with the idea of getting some tee shirts made up and so the club began. To my recollection, I don't remember any real cruises. It was just everyone having cool cars and they liked to hang out up here.

In 2003 I was injured in an accident on my cousin's farm, I also was going through a divorce. I was talking to a good friend of mine (Jeff Olson) about the original Stephensville Street Rods and the subject came up of getting it going again. Well, with that I started inquiring about the old tee shirts and if anyone knew where they were made or how we could come up with the old drawing. With all of the investigation we did we came up with the old screen prints, still in existence, thanks to Mike Young. He thought his dad had them and/or knew where they were. It took a while to come up with them but he eventually found them. We had our first tee shirts made and planned our first cruise.

Our first cruise was in October of 2004. We made it our fall ride. I can't remember how many cars we had but we had a lot of fun. From there we kept the talk going and decided we needed to make this an annual event. There were some of us that wanted more. We wanted to get together more often because every time we did we always had a lot of fun, and it was really cool to see all of the old cars. With the help of Barb, Mike Young, Jeff Olson, and Mike & Mary Schultz we decided to make the club a reality.

After one of our cruises we sat down at T&T lanes and had a discussion on what to do next, and the club was started. We really didn't know what direction we should go so we all pitched in and started to research our plan of attack. I really can't remember how our officers were made, or appointed, but I was made Club President (I think just because I have a lot of time). Barb was made Treasurer/Event Coordinator. Mike and Mary were Vice Presidents and Mike was Sergeant at Arms. Then on we set our calendars for the next summer, during which we had a few cruises and the color ride.

From there we got a lot of feed back that we needed to do more so the next summer we had a cruise almost every month, and ended the year with a color ride and barn dance. Which brings us to 2007 when we had a cruise every month and our First Annual Car Show, which attracted 44 cars! Not bad for our first show! And we cant forget our Barn Dance at Mike & Mary's, which seems to be getting better every year. I think that is all I can remember I know I am missing some details but in a nut shell that is what I can recall."

Club Officer Profiles
Joe Vermiglio- President
Its hard to write a bio on yourself without sounding conceited. I'm happy to say that I have 4 grown children that live all over the country; 2 boys and 2 girls. My oldest daughter is married and proudly serving in the US Army. She is in her second enlistment. She has been to Iraq twice (hopefully she will not have to go back). My oldest son is proudly serving in the US Air Force Reserve. My youngest daughter lives in California and is working in the music industry. My youngest son lives in Milwaukee and is attending school. I live with the love of my life, Amy, and our two dogs - Otis and Milo. Together we have a total of 5 cars and are adding more,(what she don't know will not hurt her). We like to take long rides on our bike or in one of the old cars. We look forward to spending the rest of our lives together and having a lot of fun with the Stephensville Street Rods.

Amy Rathsack - President
I have lived in the Appleton area all my life. I bought Digger's Bar in Stephensville 5 years ago. It was always a goal of mine to own a bar (yeah I know, if I knew then what I know now!) But my goal came true in July of 2003. I ran the bar for 5 years and am now very happily retired from the bar business. I am going to have to find a "real"job real soon. I met my soulmate, Joe, 3 years ago and we realized a dream of ours in May 2008 when we purchased an old farm house in the Shiocton area, We have been very busy renovating and trying to make it what it once was. We live there with our 2 black labs and alot of old cars! I have 3 grown children that all live in the area and that I don't get to see as often as I'd like. I am looking forward to spending more time with the car club and hopefully finishing my pickup before the snow flies!

Barb Vance - Secretary/Treasurer
I'm the owner of a 1988 Buick Hearse. I have a son, Jeremiah, and my other spoiled son, (dog) Chief. We started the informal club several years ago when a bunch of us went for a little cruise. We were at T&T for a few beverages. Joe had this great ideas to start up the old "Stephensville Street Rods" club again. Joe became the "president" and a table away, I was voted for secretary, treasurer, event planner, etc. I had a title that wouldn't be able to fit on a business card. From there on it was all up hill for a good time. I now have the simple title of Secretary/Treasurer.
